Network Specialist
As a Network Specialist you are responsible for the implementation and management of various networks and its components. You are able to quickly understand, operate and manage complex customer and management environments in a tactful manner. Installing, configuring and maintaining network components also forms part of the scope of responsibilities of a Network Specialist as well as the development and implementation of security policies.
As a Network Specialist you are analytical and your main tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Installing and configuring network components (e.g. servers, routers, PC’s, terminals, both UNIX and Windows);
- Optimizing network equipment (e.g. updating OS and parameters) and solving malfunctions. If deemed necessary, the Network Specialist contacts the corresponding supplier and document the malfunctions and disruptions;
- Installing new releases of software applications;
- Deployment of security policies (rules of authorization, mandatory fire walls, etc.) and software license policies and implementing these with the helpdesk;
- Setting up a system for administration and procedures for recording and keeping the data up to date (e.g. Users, equipment, software, authorization, etc.);
- Configuring routers and access points for Wi-Fi points for corporate clients.
As a Network Specialist, it is very important that you actively stay up-to-date of (technical) developments within the field.
Background and skills
- A Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science/Electrical engineering
- Broad knowledge of technical structure of the IT infrastructure
- Knowledge of network components and the operating systems used (network connectivity, technologies, protocols, and security)
- Knowledge of Setar’s applications and services, and the requirements they place on the network
- Strong communication and networking skills
- Flexible attitude, proactive and takes initiative
- Analytical and Problemsolving skills
- Dynamic
